Safety Scanner SZ-01S – Installation & Configuration Guide

1. Required Items

Before starting, prepare the following:

Software:
Safety Device Configurator – download from the manufacturer’s website:
https://www.keyence.com/support/user/safety/software/

Cable:
USB to Mini-USB cable for connecting the PC (iPC) to the SZ-01S Safety Scanner.


2. Installation of Configurator Software on AL15 iPC

The AL15 machine uses Windows 10.

  1. Copy the downloaded Safety Device Configurator installer file to the Desktop of the AL15 iPC.
  2. Extract (unzip) the downloaded package.
  3. Run the installer file (.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen Installation Wizard until the setup is complete.

3. USB Connection Between Safety Scanner and iPC

Plug the USB connector into the front USB port of the iPC (for easy access).

Remove the upper cover screws on the SZ-01S Safety Scanner.

Insert the Mini-USB connector firmly into the scanner’s configuration port.


4. Configuration Procedure in the Software

Launch Safety Device Configurator on the iPC.

Select SZ – Configuration from the main menu.

Click Read to upload and read the current settings from the Safety Scanner.

Open the Configuration menu to review all parameters and modify them as required.

Refer to the included wiring diagram and configuration documentation for detailed parameter descriptions.


5. Editing Protection and Warning Zones

Open Edit Zone to adjust the detection areas:

  • Warning Zone (Yellow)
  • Protection Zone (Red)

After completing the zone adjustments, click Transfer to write the new settings to the device.

When prompted, enter the default password: 1111.


6. OSSD Output Test

After downloading the configuration, perform a functional test:

Walk into the Protection Zone.

  • The OSSD output should activate (turn OFF), and the scanner indicator will turn Red, indicating intrusion into the Protection Zone.

Step out of the Protection Zone.

  • The scanner should reset automatically, and the indicator returns to Green.

7. Notes

  • Ensure the scanner is securely mounted and free from obstruction during configuration.
  • Any changes to the Protection Zone should comply with machine safety requirements.
  • Always verify proper OSSD switching before releasing the machine back to operation.
